CONGRATULATIONS TO ABBIE WHITE for being selected as Sophomore of the Year for Community Christian School and CALEB STURTZ for being selected as Student of the Month by the Lions Club.
Norman Youth Council - an advisory body composed of local youth (sophomore, junior or senior in high school) provides advice and counsel to City Council and their boards and commissions, as well as other community organizations. The Youth Council also provides youth in Norman an opportunity to learn about their local government. Application requirements would include: Must live in a Ward of the City of Norman - map available at www.normanok.gov, be a high school sophomore, junior or senior in the upcoming academic year, and provide a completed application, including two letters of recommendation from adults who are familiar with their service to the community and/or their leadership skills. Terms will be for the school year from September to May with a limit of two terms. Application deadline is March 30, 2012. NCAA CLEARINGHOUSE - Any student athlete desiring to play NCAA Division I or Division II sports in college, will need to register through the NCAA Clearinghouse at the beginning of their junior year. To register, go to www.eligibilitycenter.org. Print two copies for the High School Advisor to submit with an official transcript. All ACT or SAT scores must be reported directly to the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse by the testing agency. When registering for the ACT or SAT, students need to use the clearinghouse code of 9999 to have scores reported directly to the clearinghouse. Test scores that appear on transcripts will no longer be used by the clearinghouse.
NAIA CLEARINGHOUSE - Any student athlete desiring to play NAIA sports in college will need to register through the NAIA Clearinghouse at the beginning of their senior year. To register, go to www.playnaia.org.
OKCIS - Oklahoma Career Information System - This website allows students to search for information on U.S. Colleges or Universities, Occupational Career Quest Tips, Job Searches, Financial Aid - Scholarships, Grants, Military opportunities and much more. Develop your own portfolio and plan of study. Begin by logging on to www.okcis.intocareers.org, the user name is communitychristian and password is okcis177. Once logged on, create your own user name (usually the first initial and last name) and use the password of (communitychristian1). For more information or help, see Mrs. Stephens.
COLLEGE VISITS - Individual college visits are for seniors only as stated in the handbook. Permission forms are located on the wall by Lanette's desk, outside Mrs. Stephens' office, or downloaded here. Forms must be signed by a parent and returned directly to Mrs. Stephens' at least one week in advance for approval. Visits are to be made with the parent and student, not for groups.
TRANSCRIPT ORDER FORMS - To request copies of a student's transcript, order forms made be found by Lanette's desk, outside Mrs. Stephens' office, or downloaded here. Please turn in request forms to Mrs. Stephens. The first three are free, thereafter will be $1.00 each.
SELECTIVE SERVICE - Males within 30 days of their 18th birthday, must register with the Selective Service System. See Mrs. Stephens to register or go to www.sss.gov. It's the law.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES - For ideas go to www.presidentialserviceawards.gov.
HOW TO GO - www.college.gov was designed by students for students and features first-person accounts of students who overcame challenges to going to college such as peer pressure, lack of family support and financial barriers. It provides relevant, comprehensive information about why to go, how to go, and how to pay for college or other postsecondary education programs. Young people who may not have considered higher education a viable option will be engaged, informed, and inspired to create their own "roadmap" to college.
AMERICAN LEGION BOYS' STATE AND GIRLS' STATE - If you're up for the challenge, they will give you a week that will shape your lifetime. For more information go to www.boysandgirlsstate.org.
SYLVAN LEARNING CENTER - K-8 grade level students can go to www.bookadventure.com. This website allows them to print off book lists, go to the library, read the book, and get back on the computer to take the assessment. The students are eligible for points and prizes.
