The art program at CCS is designed to enhance student's problem solving and critical thinking skills through the application of art techniques. It also provides situations for the student to engage the learning power of the brain as a whole, through the left and right sides of the brain.
In Intro to Art the students learn a general overview of the elements and principles of art through art history and art making. The key to this class is not only creating the art but also self reflection and evaluation of one's own work and the work of his or her peers.
After successful completion of Intro to Art the student may choose to go on to Two-Dimensional or Three-Dimensional Art in which we explore more in depth processes relevant to that class. In these courses the student learns the vocabulary of art and how to write formal critiques.
We also offer a one-semester course called Advanced Drawing, that offers two-dimensional drawing, “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.”
The program develops a student's portfolio of work which can then be submitted to the college of their choice if they decide to pursue art in the future.
